Board of Trustees

Meet our trustees

Hayden Wano - Chairman

He uri tēnei nō Rameka Te Amai.

Hayden Wano is our current Chairman of Te Runanga o Ngāti Tama and a Trustee on Te Kahui o Taranaki Trust.

He brings his extensive governance experience in the public, private, philanthropic and not-for-profits sectors and is now at a stage in life  capacity to dedicate time towards iwi commitments.

Hayden's passion has been in the hauora space – 25 years as the former CEO of Tui Ora. As an ‘iwi owned’ entity, this required him to build strong local networks particularly across, hapu and whānau to ensure the success in their mahi.

"Ngāti Tama is well placed to build a culturally, socially and economically strong and diverse organisation. Tama Manawaroa Tama Manawanui.

The benefits of our efforts must flow into strengthening our cultural capacity and, in doing so, improving our social, health, environmental and economic security for uri.

It is important that we create a strong vision of what the future could look like - that we demonstrate courageous leadership and make the bold decisions to move forward.

If our approach is successful, our whanau will know that they have been rightfully engaged in the process.

If I am successful, I will commit to applying my skills in service of our people."

Vicki Kershaw - Deputy Chair

He uri tēnei nō Te Kapinga Hirini McClutchie.

Vicki Kershaw was seconded onto Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Tama in 2024. Her aim, as a trustee and Deputy Chair is to provide uri with the confidence that Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Tama is moving into a financially sustainable future that has transparent and robust processes, enabling the delivery of a Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Tama Strategic Plan that is endorsed by uri.

Her career has provided both operational leadership and governance experience. Starting as a Dental Therapist then moving into project management, programme management, then as a CEO of an aged care service primarily for first nations people in rural remote Western Australia. She was a Ministerial appointment to the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ) and represented Ngāti Mutunga Iwi on Te Whare Pūnanga Kōrero for eight years.

Vicki feels fortunate that she was fortunate to grow up at Pukearuhe with a large extended whānau. She grew up in the rohe of her tūpuna learning to gather kai moana, free to roam and play on the beaches, swim, and fish at Wai-iti and Parininihi and explore the surrounding
bushland.

"I believe it is important for our mokopuna to have access to their
tūrangawaewae, know their history, their whakapapa, and the stories of their tupuna."

Frances White

He uri tēnei nō Tamati Rangiwhakahotu rāua ko Kōkiri.

Frances’ background is in education and management. She stood for the Board because she can see the opportunities our iwi has to exercise its role as kaitiaki. "We have the ngāhere, moana and awa, and our native manu are slowly returning. We’re so lucky this is our tūrangawaewae. But our mokopuna will experience a world that will be unfamiliar to my generation. They’ll have to cope with rising sea levels, weather extremes, and basic things like access to clean water, food security and safe housing. Our job is to help prepare them for these challenges. Tama Manawanui, Tama Manawaroa!”

Conrad O’Carroll

Conrad leads the charge for protecting Ngāti Tama’s ngahere, the whenua and environment – Te Taiao and champion’s this cause on Te Rūnanga. His enthusiasm to help the Rūnanga to do the best for whanau and iwi, led him to take up the role as a trustee. Making sure members are aware of opportunities as they arise and making the most of them, are important for him.

Andrew Matuku

He uri tēnei nō Rangikata White.

Te Rūnanga has co-opted Andrew Matuku to join the board. Andrew has a background in business with solid experience in balancing team performance along with meeting customer and business objectives. He holds a management position, where he manages around 30 staff, with SSA New Zealand at Port Taranaki. Creativity and seeing situations from different perspectives, comes naturally to Andrew. He draws on his aptitude for detail and being thorough, to inform his decision making.

Reconnecting with whanau and tikanga as well as a desire to offer a helping hand, are key drivers that have attracted Andrew to the board.

Richard McClutchie

He uri tēnei nō Tiaki Kapinga McClutchie.

Richard was born and rasied at Pukearuhe where he still resides along with his extended whānau. He brings pragmatism and a delivery approach to the board. Richard's key focus areas include creating an open and welcoming environment for all whānau; leading with integrity, honesty and transparency; education and leadership (skill development, educational achievement and fostering leaders within whānau) and job creation and enterprise (explore opportunities to create sustainable weath and financial security).
